Generating clips: step-by-step

Clip generation is the core of Choppity's Content OS: one long video in, many short clips out, ready to edit and publish.

Before you start

Have a video file (MP4/MOV/MP3) or a YouTube URL ready. Pick target length (default 60 seconds) and optional custom instructions so the AI knows what to hunt for.

Generate clips step by step

  1. From Projects, open Generate clips (or Short clips in the sidebar).
  2. Add your source: upload a file, paste YouTube, or pick an Existing video from your library.
  3. Wait for upload or import to finish, then click Continue.
  4. On the customize screen, set Clip duration, aspect ratio, caption style, and optional custom instructions.
  5. Click Continue, edit my video to start analysis.
  6. Choppity transcribes, finds strong moments, and builds a folder of clips.
  7. When processing ends, open any clip to edit, download, or schedule posts (paid plans).

What happens in the background

Expect transcription, scene understanding, and AI scoring. Longer sources take longer. You can browse other Projects while you wait.

Tips

  • 60 seconds is a strong default for TikTok, Reels, and Shorts.
  • Use custom instructions for niche topics (for example: only product demo moments).
  • Star your best clips on the folder page to find them quickly later.
